It is a real pleasure to be able to feature this travel story from a young traveller that I know from Eastbourne. 'Gaz' started travelling in Asia at the start of 2014 and spent a few months there before heading for Australia, He is still there working on the Gold Coast before continuing his travels.

Fred went to sleep last night thinking how lucky he had been health-wise on this trip. He wakes up in the early morning feeling a lot sicker than he'd been for a very long time. The day trip around Delhi has to be forgotten and after a brief walk out he is bed-ridden for most of the day.
"After a hundred yards I stopped for a black tea which certainly had positive effects. Two minutes later I was vomiting really heavily in the gutter." Read today's record of Fred's discomforts on the Daily Diary page. On a very hot day Fred heads to the central area of Delhi before collecting his visa from the Nepalese embassy. He writes a few postcards to people he has not been in touch with since prison and also invites his German girlfriend, Rita, to come and join him for a holiday in India.
"The weather was really hot today and I was grateful for the shade provided by the many trees lining the streets on the way out of the city." Follow Fred's adventures on the Daily Diary page. It's now over 2 months since Fred's Blog went live and I hope that you are all enjoying the daily serialisation of Fred's Diary 1981 and the featured travel stories. In that time we have had 10.5K unique visitors and 34.1K page views, which is fantastic.
Please continue to follow Fred's travels on the Daily Diary page. If you've missed his experiences in Hong Kong and Thailand you can check out the February and March archive pages, which are in chronological order. Also, don't forget to get your travel story featured on our Travel Stories pages. For details of how to enter go to the Competition page. There are monthly prizes of £20/$30 and an overall prize of £100/$150. Above all I'd love to get some feedback. The daily diary is part of an editing process to make the second edition of Fred's Diary 1981 (to be published later this year) a more readable book. Any contributions would be really welcome. You can either add your Comments here or use the Contact Us page to get in touch with me directly. I look forward to hearing from you. Fred A busy day as Fred moves to a cheaper hotel, applies for a Nepalese visa, explores more of the sights of Delhi, checks out the railway station and goes to see a Hindi film.
"On the way I saw many men urinating against walls and in side-gutters, which seems to be an accepted practice here. So is litter, it is simply discarded along the street which all tends to add to the general confusion of the place." Join Fred as he starts to make his travel plans on the Daily Diary page. On his second day in Delhi, Fred starts to get orientated. He explores some of the city, gets some local currency, visits the tourist office, posts his diary from Thailand and starts planning his travels in India.
"At the moment it is their short 'summer' which only lasts a couple of months and from June it is the monsoon season in most areas except the south-east, which receives most of its rainfall in January/February." Follow Fred as he starts planning his Indian adventure on the Daily Diary page. It is an honour to have a new travel story entry for the April competition from John Rayburn. He has also been kind enough to include a short bio about himself:
John Rayburn covered many major events on Radio/TV. Network credits include reports on “The Today Show,” “Huntley-Brinkley News,” “Walter Cronkite News,” “NBC Monitor,” and “NBC News on the Hour,” and others. He performed at Old Time Radio conventions in Newark, Cincinnati, Los Angeles and Seattle. Rayburn’s professional background led to constant research on myriad subjects and this carries over from his non-fiction books into his fiction. He uses actual people, places and things in a fictional way to add authenticity to the absorbing story lines. John covered major news and sporting events in part of seven decades on radio and television. His play-by-play sports credits include football, baseball, basketball, hockey, golf and boxing. He interviewed top names in news, sports, politics, business and virtually all walks of life. Read this great new entry on John Rayburn's travel story page. Three days ago Fred thought that he was heading for Malaysia. Now he is in Delhi where he spends his first day of freedom, finding a place to stay and starting to familiarise himself with his new surroundings.
"I am still in a bit of a daze at the moment but hope to get myself together in the next couple of days." Join Fred on the Daily Diary page as he starts to discover India. In what should be Fred's last day in the transit cells, he has a pretty lazy and stoned day ahead of his deportation. He is collected in the evening to be transported out to the airport again.
" I felt a little self-conscious with the immigration guy constantly by my side but was soon able to get my baggage checked and a seat allocated." Find out what happens next on today's Daily Diary page. |
